At Cape Fear Valley Health, we understand the challenges of balancing cancer treatment with work, family and other obligations. Our goal is to ease the burden of care by offering the highest quality cancer care locally.

Our Approach to Cancer Care

We take a comprehensive approach to your cancer care. That means we’ll tailor your cancer treatment to both your physical and emotional needs.

To do this, your care team will consider:

  • Your health history
  • The stage and type of cancer you have
  • Genetic testing, genomic testing or tumor profiling (DNA tests that provide insights about your specific cancer)
  • Your concerns, preferences and goals for treatment

We’ll then work with you to put together a care plan — discussing all your options.

Your Care Team

You’ll have a team of cancer specialists working together for you. Your care team could include:

  • Medical oncologists
  • Radiation oncologists
  • Surgical oncologists
  • Advanced practice providers
  • Social workers
  • Dietitians
  • Pharmacists
  • Oncology nurses
  • Navigators

We can also connect you with our supportive oncology services. This program offers assistance with applications for social security, disability, Medicaid and supplemental security income (SSI). They can also assist you with nutrition counseling, financial counseling, community referrals, transportation assistance and help with prescription drugs.

Why Choose Cape Fear Valley Health for Cancer Care?

  • From your very first appointment at Cape Fear Valley Health Cancer Centers, you'll have a team in your corner. They'll get to know you, your family and your needs before, during and after treatment. This level of personal attention offers you a warm, inviting space for your care. It allows us to seamlessly adjust your care and connect you to resources specific to your changing needs.

  • We believe cancer care should be local whenever possible. We want to make it easier for you to get the daily or weekly treatments you need. That's why we offer cancer services, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy, at a number of convenient locations.

  • Your cancer care team will focus on your distinct needs and incorporating the most effective treatments for your specific cancer. Accredited as a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center through the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, as well as earning certifications from the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) the American College of Radiology (ACR), Cape Fear Valley Cancer Centers are proud to offer world-class cancer treatment.

  • Our medical oncologists incorporate state-of-the-art genetic testing, genomic testing and molecular profiling into your cancer care. These tests identify the unique genetic makeup of your cancer. And this information helps us determine treatments that can effectively target and attack your specific cancer.

  • Your cancer treatment plan may include radiation therapy. To deliver radiation, we use linear accelerator technology, including stereotactic radiosurgery and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). These technologies more precisely destroy cancer cells while avoiding healthy tissue. This lowers your risk for side effects like skin irritation and fatigue.

“This team is amazing. The way they cared about me completely, from my physical health to my mental health, my body image, how I would feel today and tomorrow and the next day … I am just so grateful.”
