Before Your Procedure

Preparation for your surgery begins well in advance. Here are some key steps to follow:

  • Pre-Admission Testing: Most patients will undergo pre-surgical testing, which may include a medical history review, laboratory studies, and possibly an EKG or chest X-ray. Your surgeon will schedule this appointment and inform you of the location.
  • Medication Guidelines: Follow your surgeon's instructions regarding medications. Some medications may need to be paused before surgery, particularly blood thinners and certain pain relievers.
  • Fasting Instructions: Do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before your surgery, unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.

Admissions

On the day of your surgery, please report to the designated admissions area at the specified time. This allows our team to prepare you for your procedure. You will check in, complete any necessary paperwork, and be guided to the patient holding area.

Family Communication Process

We recognize the importance of keeping your family informed. After your surgery, the surgeon will speak with your designated family member or significant other to discuss the procedure and any post-operative care instructions. This is an opportunity for them to ask questions and understand your recovery plan.

Post-Surgery Recovery (PACU)

After your surgery, you will be moved to the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for recovery. Here, our skilled nursing staff will monitor your vital signs and manage any discomfort. The duration of your stay in the PACU can vary, typically lasting from 30 minutes to three hours, depending on your specific needs.

Patient Care Unit (PCU)

If you require an overnight stay, you will be transferred to a Patient Care Unit (PCU) where our dedicated team will continue to provide care and support. You will receive regular assessments and assistance as you begin your recovery journey.

Discharge Information

Before you leave the hospital, our team will provide you with detailed discharge instructions, including information on medications, follow-up appointments, and any necessary home care. It is essential to have a responsible adult accompany you home, as you may still be under the effects of anesthesia. Please ensure that you have arranged for someone to pick you up after your procedure.

By following these guidelines and staying informed, you can help ensure a smooth surgical experience. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team.
