Overview

Each New Graduate Nurse Residency cohort receives a strategic, planned blend of classroom and hands-on experience. Progress is evaluated on a regular basis with input from your preceptor(s) according to established objectives. The New Graduate Residency Program is offered twice annually, in winter and summer.

Cape Fear Valley Health recognizes the challenges that new graduate RNs face during their first year of practice development. All newly licensed RNs will participate in an evidence-based, year-long program that will guide the graduate nurse from student to competent practitioner with a focus on professional development and critical thinking.

Senior nursing students or new graduates will apply and be hired to their areas of interest. Patient Care Managers, Clinical Educators, and trained preceptors will guide the RN to clinical competence while content experts will provide scheduled classroom didactic seminars during unit training and quarterly thereafter, for one year.

There are two start dates annually

  • Winter/Spring cohort (beginning in February)
  • Summer/Fall cohort (beginning in July)
