To help accomplish this, we offer scholarship opportunities for various healthcare programs in which students can receive educational assistance with signed employment commitments.

Nursing Externship

At Cape Fear Valley Health, we are committed to supporting the next generation of nursing professionals through our robust Nursing Externship program. This paid externship opportunity is designed to provide aspiring nurses with invaluable hands-on experience and a glimpse into the rewarding world of healthcare.

Paid Externship for Nursing Students

As a participant in our Nursing Externship program, you'll have the chance to work alongside our experienced nursing teams and gain firsthand insights into the daily responsibilities and challenges faced by healthcare providers. Throughout your externship, you'll be compensated for your time and contributions, allowing you to supplement your education with meaningful, paid work experience.

Enriching Externship Experience

During your Nursing Externship, you can expect to:

Rotate

Rotate through various nursing units and departments, including medical-surgical, emergency, and critical care

Assist

Assist in providing direct patient care under the supervision of seasoned nursing staff

Participate

Participate in team meetings, interdisciplinary rounds, and other collaborative efforts

Engage

Engage in skills-building workshops and educational sessions to enhance your clinical knowledge

Experience

Receive mentorship and guidance from our nursing leaders and preceptors

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for our Nursing Externship program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Successful completion of the first year in an accredited school of nursing
  • Current NA I registration with the North Carolina Division of Health Service Regulation (NCDHHS) or NA II registration with the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON)
  • Submission of a recommendation letter from a nursing instructor or academic advisor
