Rejuvenate your facial radiance. Enjoy smoother, firmer skin and a more youthful profile with a mid-face lift at Cape Fear Valley Health.
What Is a Mid-Face Lift?
A mid-face lift improves the appearance of sagging skin, restores youthful definition and enhances your confidence. This procedure targets the middle of your face, specifically the area between the eyes and mouth.
The goal of a mid-face lift is to tighten and firm the skin around your eyes, nose and cheeks, providing more targeted results with a quicker recovery than a traditional face lift. It’s a highly effective option for achieving natural-looking rejuvenation.

What to Expect With a Mid-Face Lift
A mid-face lift takes about an hour and is performed under local anesthesia, ensuring you won’t feel any pain while remaining awake. After the procedure, you can return home.
Depending on your specific needs, your plastic surgeon will use one of these techniques.
- Traditional lift technique: This method requires an incision in your lower lash line. It’s ideal for patients who need only an upward lift.
- Endoscopic technique: In this approach, your plastic surgeon will create two incisions in your temples at your hairline. It’s best suited for patients who need both an upward and diagonal lift.
Mid-Face Lift Consultation
Your Cape Fear Valley Health plastic surgeon will discuss your treatment goals and carefully evaluate your body. They will then make recommendations based on your desired results and develop your personalized treatment plan.
Are You a Candidate For a Mid-Face Lift?
Most patients who have a mid-face lift are between 30 and 40 years old. This procedure is ideal for those experiencing early signs of aging, such as mild to moderate sagging around the eyes, nose and cheeks. If you are looking to enhance your facial contours and achieve a more youthful appearance without undergoing a full face lift, a mid-face lift may be the perfect solution.
Additional considerations:
- The ideal candidate is in good overall health.
- Alcohol increases the risk of excess bleeding and should be avoided for at least two weeks before surgery.
- Nicotine increases the risk of blood clots and other complications. Patients should be nicotine-free for three to six weeks before and after surgery.
Mid-Face Lift Recovery and Results
Some sutures (sterile surgical stitches) will need to be removed between five and seven days following the procedure.
After a mid-face lift, you should:
- Plan to take one to two weeks off work to focus on recovery.
- Ensure you get plenty of rest.
- Wear a compression bandage for two weeks to reduce swelling and promote healing.
- Avoid strenuous activities for six to eight weeks to prevent complications.
It’s normal to experience some discomfort, mild bruising and swelling, which typically subside in one to two weeks. Most patients see results within two to three months.
Mid-Face Lift Risks
Like all surgeries, a mid-face lift involves a certain degree of risk. However, when performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, serious complications are rare. To minimize risk, follow the instructions and advice of your plastic surgeon.
Some risks and complications could include:
- Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications
- Infection
- Pain, numbness or facial nerve injury
- Poor wound healing
- Scarring
- Skin irregularities or discoloration
- Uneven contours or asymmetry
