What to Expect With a Full Body Lift

A full body lift procedure typically takes between four and seven hours, depending on the specific areas being addressed. You won’t feel any pain during surgery as you’ll be under general anesthesia.

A full body lift combines multiple body-contouring techniques to achieve a slimmer, more defined figure:

  • Upper body lift: Addresses the upper arms, breasts, and/or upper back.
  • Mid-body lift: Focuses on the abdominal area.
  • Lower body lift: Targets the buttocks and thighs.

Full Body Lift Consultation

Your Cape Fear Valley Health plastic surgeon will discuss your treatment goals and carefully evaluate your body. They will then make recommendations based on your desired results and develop your personalized treatment plan.

Are You a Candidate For a Full Body Lift?

A full body lift is an excellent option if you have sagging, excess skin in multiple areas of your body. This comprehensive procedure is especially effective for individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight. Since multiple areas are addressed, a full body lift can provide more cohesive results compared to separate procedures.

It's important to note that a full body lift is not a weight loss solution. To qualify, you should maintain a stable weight. We also encourage you to commit to a balanced diet and regular exercise after the procedure.

Additional considerations:

  • The ideal candidate is in good overall health.
  • Alcohol increases the risk of excess bleeding and should be avoided for at least two weeks before surgery.
  • Body weight should be stable for at least six months to a year before surgery.
  • Nicotine increases the risk of blood clots and other complications. Patients should be nicotine-free for three to six weeks before and after surgery.

Full Body Lift Recovery and Results

After the procedure, you should:

  • Plan to take two to three weeks off work to focus on recovery.
  • Ensure you get plenty of rest.
  • Wear a vest-type garment for about three weeks after your procedure to promote healing and recovery.
  • Avoid strenuous activities for six to eight weeks to prevent complications.

It’s normal to experience mild swelling and bruising, which typically subside in six weeks. Your improved shape will begin to show as swelling decreases, and most patients see final results within one to two years.

Full Body Lift Risks

Like all surgeries, a full body lift involves a certain degree of risk. However, when performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, serious complications are rare. To minimize risk, follow the instructions and advice of your plastic surgeon.

Some risks and complications could include:

  • Deep vein thrombosis, cardiac or pulmonary complications
  • Infection
  • Pain, swelling or numbness
  • Poor wound healing
  • Scarring
  • Skin discoloration, loose skin or irregularities
  • Uneven contours or asymmetry
