What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift reshapes and repositions the forehead, eyebrows and upper eyelids. The goal of a brow lift is to elevate sagging eyebrows and remove wrinkles on the forehead and glabella (space between the eyebrows). The eyes suddenly appear awake, open and vibrant.
Typical aging of the brow leads to:
- Appearance of excess skin on the upper eyelids
- Fattening of the eyebrows
- Sagging skin
- Wrinkles of the forehead and glabella
This is caused by chronic elevation of the eyebrows during facial expression and effects of the sun. A well-designed brow lift will resuspend the tissues. This gives a more youthful curvature to the brow, removes wrinkles and improves the upper eyelid appearance.

What to Expect With a Brow Lift
A brow lift takes between one and two hours. You’ll be awake during the procedure, but you won’t feel any pain because you’ll be under local anesthesia (which numbs the area). You’ll be able to go home after the procedure is over.
A brow lift is performed through a scalp incision. The soft tissues are released, which allows your plastic surgeon to address dominant wrinkles. Then, your plastic surgeon will re-suspend the soft tissues to make the eyebrow and upper eyelids look younger and more rested.
Brow Lift Consultation
Your Cape Fear Valley Health plastic surgeon will discuss your treatment goals and carefully evaluate your brows. Next, they’ll make a recommendation based on your desired results and develop your personalized treatment plan.
Are You a Candidate For a Brow Lift?
A brow lift is for a man or woman who wants to enhance their appearance. Procedures work best on patients who:
- Are in good overall health.
- Don’t drink alcohol for two weeks before surgery. (Alcohol acts as a blood thinner, which increases the risk of excess bleeding during surgery.)
- Quit using nicotine products three to six weeks before surgery and three to six weeks after. (Nicotine increases your risk of surgical complications, like blood clots.)
By meeting these criteria, you can optimize the safety and effectiveness of your brow lift procedure, achieving your desired results with confidence and peace of mind.
Brow Lift Recovery and Results
Following your brow lift procedure, your surgeon will delicately close the incisions with stitches, which will be removed during a follow-up appointment within two weeks. For the initial two days post-surgery, you'll wear bandages across your head to support healing.
After a brow lift, you will need to take one to two weeks off work. During this time, you should:
- Get plenty of rest.
- Keep your head elevated for at least two days after surgery to reduce swelling.
- Avoid strenuous activities for about two to three weeks.
While mild discomfort, bruising, and swelling may persist for one to two weeks, rest assured that you'll begin to see the results of your brow lift immediately, enhancing your appearance with a refreshed and revitalized look.
Brow Lift Risks
Like all surgeries, a brow lift involves a certain degree of risk. However, when it’s performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon, serious complications are rare. Minimize other complications by following the instructions and advice of your plastic surgeon.
Some risks and complications could include:
- Infection
- Numbness or pain
- Restricted eyebrow movement
- Scarring
- Uneven contours or asymmetry
Rest assured that our team is dedicated to your safety and satisfaction, working diligently to ensure the best possible outcome for your brow lift procedure.
