Ready to take the next step in your nursing career

At Cape Fear Valley Health, we are seeking talented, compassionate nurses to join our dynamic team. As one of the largest healthcare providers in the region, we offer unparalleled opportunities for professional growth, skill development, and making a meaningful impact on the lives of our patients and community.

Overview

Progressive Care Units (PCU) are designed and staffed to provide an intermediate level of care for patients requiring vigilant monitoring and treatment that bridges the gap between intensive care units and medical/surgical units. These patients are generally stable but are at risk for deterioration.

The PCU can be demanding and fast-paced, working alongside other healthcare professionals such as physicians, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists to ensure that patients receive the best possible care.

Locations

  • Cape Fear Valley Medical Center
    • Medical/Surgical PCU
      • Nurses provide care to adult patients with complex medical/surgical conditions. Many patients have recently experienced a life-threatening event but are transitioning out of critical care. • Cardiac PCU
      • Nurses provide care to adult patients recovering from postoperative cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery, patients who require closer monitoring post cardiac catheterization lab intervention, and patients who are experiencing cardiac arrhythmias requiring set rate cardiac medication infusions. The Cardiac PCU specializes in management of chest tubes, surgical drains, and patient controlled analgesic pumps.
  • Highsmith Rainey Specialty Hospital
    • Nurses provide care to a diverse adult patient population with acute or chronic complex medical/surgical conditions that require high acuity nursing skills. Both units specialize in complex wound care, tracheostomy care, critical medication infusions, and managing severe respiratory conditions requiring BiPAP or high-flow oxygen via nasal cannula. The 3rd floor nurses care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation.
