Overview

Nephrology nurses care for patients anywhere along the spectrum of renal disease. Inpatient nurses specialize in providing acute care to help patients recuperate sufficiently to be discharged home. Nephrology nursing involves teamwork with nephrologists, dietitians, social workers etc., but also good assessment skills, technical skills, therapeutic communication skills, attention to detail, and leadership qualities.

  • Nephrology Unit
    • Nurses on Nephrology provide complex care for inpatients experiencing the impact of chronic kidney disease or newly diagnosed renal failure. They are highly skilled and knowledgeable on multiple organ systems because many patients have numerous comorbid conditions. Nurses also assist with psychosocial issues to help patients lead the healthiest life possible, requiring a holistic approach which is both challenging and rewarding.

Candidates

Candidates for Nephrology are willing to undergo specialized education and experience in caring for patients who are receiving hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Hemodialysis is performed by dialysis nurses from a private vendor.
