About Edwin C Newman, III, MD

Dr. Edwin Newman, III, is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in treating all injuries and conditions of the musculoskeletal system. He has special interest in joint replacement, sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, hand surgery, and trauma. Dr. Newman is the only surgeon in the Fayetteville region performing hip replacement via the direct anterior approach. Dr. Newman received a civil engineering degree from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and served more than nine years on active duty as an instructor and evaluator pilot. Dr. Newman left active duty to pursue a medical career and graduated from The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina in 2002. Before joining Cape Fear Orthopedics & Sports Medicine in 2007, he completed an internship and his orthopedic surgery residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. A now retired Colonel, Dr. Newman participates in an annual fundraiser for our local Youth for Christ chapter as well as other volunteer and charitable activities. Dr. Newman serves as a team doctor for the Fayetteville Marksmen and the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. He loves to play golf and spend time with his wife and three children.
