About Anton P. Lacap, MD/MPH, FAAOS

Dr. Lacap was born in Alameda, CA. He received his initial commission in the United States Army Reserves through the Health Professions Scholarship Program shortly after 9/11 while attending medical school. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree (Physiological Sciences) in 1996 from the University of California, Los Angeles. He gained acceptance to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-
Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (UMDNJ-RWJMS), participating in the joint MD/MPH program from which he graduated in 2003. After medical school he completed his orthopaedic training at Walter Reed Army Medical Center from 2003-2009.

His assignments have included Womack Army Medical Center (WAMC), Fort Bragg, NC 2009-2019, and Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center (DDEAMC) 2019-present. At WAMC he served as an Orthopaedic Staff Surgeon, the Orthopaedic Surgeon to the Special Operations Task Force (SOTF), Chief
of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Chief of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation. At DDEAMC, he continued his clinical practice, served as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery, and ultimately served out his remaining active-duty service as the Chief of the Department of Surgery.

He has multiple deployments and has performed over 300 trauma cases while deployed. For his service overseas he has received the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM), Army Commendation Medal with ā€œCā€ device (ARCOM-C), the Bronze Star Medal (BSM), and his Combat Medical Badge (CMB). His other awards include, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Army Achievement Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the North Atlantic Treaty
Organization Medal. He was promoted to the rank of Colonel in 2021, and was awarded the Legion of Merit at retirement this year.

Dr. Lacap is an Active Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He has been married to his wife Avis for over 22 years. Together they share four children.
