About Herman Chavis, MD

Dr. Herman Chavis graduated from the UNC School of Medicine in 1979. He completed his residency at Chesterfield Family Practice Center in 1982 and returned to Robeson County. Dr. Chavis has been practicing family medicine for the last 42 years in Red Springs and served as an attending physician at Southeastern Regional Medical Center from 1982-2012.

He has served as Medical Director for local hospice agencies, served as a physician for local nursing facilities, served as Associate Professor for UNC Chapel Hill, and currently serves as the Medical Director for the Robeson County Detention Center. He has also volunteered with the North Carolina Cancer Institute, the Robeson County Board of Health, and Boy Scouts of America.

Dr. Chavis enjoys gardening, traveling, and is an avid sports enthusiast.

While Chavis has received various acknowledgements and awards over the years, his greatest source of pride has been the privilege of providing medical care to the people of Robeson and surrounding counties.
