Balloon Angioplasty

If doctors find a blockage in the arteries leading to your heart, one of the methods of clearing this blockage is through a balloon angioplasty performed during a cardiac catheterization.

Doctors use a balloon tipped catheter and insert it where you have a build up of plaque in your arteries. Once the catheter is in position, the balloon is inflated. The inflation of the balloon should cause the blockage to compress against the walls of your artery, which will reopen your artery and improve the blood flow to your heart.
